Janine DiVita is...

Janine DiVita is a Broadway and screen actress and singer, concert artist, advocate, entrepreneur, producer, director, teacher, and writer who finds inspiration in storytelling, creativity, ambition, and fun. She is equally versed in comedy and drama and with a range that covers Lady Gaga to Mozart, many have called her a vocal chameleon. Beyond her talents as a performer, Janine produces and creates successful projects with heart, determination, and strategy.

Janine double majored in Musical Theatre and Communications at the University of Michigan. She is the the only person to ever win both awards at the Univesity of Michigan available to graduating seniors: The Alan Eisenberg/Actors’ Equity Award and the Earl V. Moore Award both for excellence in Musical Theatre.

Her Broadway credits include starring as “bad girl” Rizzo in Grease, (directed by Kathleen Marshall), tap dancing up a storm in Anything Goes (directed by Kathleen Marshall), and solving Dickensian crimes in the murder-mystery comedy The Mystery of Edwin Drood (directed by Scott Ellis).

If her Broadway credits weren’t versatile enough, Janine has also toured the country in the Diane Paulus directed First National Tour of Finding Neverland in which Janine played Mary Barrie, the fabulous but lonely society woman married to J.M. Barrie. She also toured as the precious and dramatic broad, Elizabeth Benning, in Mel Brooks’ First National Tour of Young Frankenstein directed by Susan Stroman. (The role of Elizabeth was created by icon, Madeline Kahn, in the original film and then recreated by Megan Mullally in the stage version).

It was during the run of Young Frankenstein that Mel Brooks himself gave Janine a shout out in an interview telling the interviewer that Janine DiVita “blows the roof off when she sings!” He was even so kind as to spell out Janine’s often misspelled Italian last name!

Janine has also toured the country with Frozen’s Idina Menzel in If/Then (directed by Michael Greif) in which Janine played Ann opposite Tony Award Winner, La Chanze. Janine also understudied Idina Menzel’s role of Elizabeth and was fortunate to play that role many times. It was here that Janine started connecting to her fan base and saw firsthand the true impact of compelling storyline. The fangroup “Fanvitas” came from this experience, and she can always count on them to support her projects!

Regionally, Janine has performed iconic and leading roles at Tony Award Winning theatres such as The Arena Stage, The Alliance Theatre, Walnut Street Theatre, The Signature Theatre, Portland Center Stage, and Theatre Raleigh. These roles include Nancy in Oliver!, Young Little Edie in Grey Gardens, Paquette in Candide, Lady of the Lake in Spamalot, Rosie in Bye Bye Birdie, and Francesca in The Bridges of Madison County.

NY Original Theatre Development Work includes Pearl in A Walk on the Moon (directed by Michael Greif), Kicks (directed by Michael Mayer, Claire in Shadows (directed by Joey McKneeley), Josephine (directed by Joey McKneeley), Bess in Houdini (directed by Gabriel Barre), and Claire in Benjamin Button (directed by Stephen Nachamie).

On screen, Janine can be seen as Amy Goldman opposite Luke Kirby on Season 2 and 3 of The Deuce and recurring as Jennifer in the recently released Gravesend (Amazon). She played opposite Dustin Hoffman and Josh Lucas as Sally in feature film, Hear My Song, directed by The Red Violin’s Francois Gerard. Other TV credits include Elementary, The Americans, Evil, and the PBS special This is the Moment in which she sings opposite Celtic Thunder’s Irish Tenor, Paul Byrom.

As a concert artist, Janine has performed for tens of thousands of people from New York City to Shanghai. She has sung with the Edmonton Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, and Omaha Symphony under the batons of maestros Jack Everly, Robert Spano, and Ernest Richardson. She’s toured mainland China as a concert artist and has performed her solo shows “Lit: Modern Broad” and “Blonde Ammnunition” at the intimate NYC nightclub, 54 Below.

It’s clear that Janine’s career has been diverse and exciting. And throughout the span of her young but full career, Janine has discovered a passion for writing, teaching, and for advocacy:

Janine co-founded Empowered Voices, a company that combines dynamic theatrical practices with traditional prevention education tactics to combat and prevent Sexual Assault within the U.S. Military and beyond. The company is currently expanding their unique curriculum into the digital realm.

Janine also serves as the Director of the USO Show Troupe. In this role, Janine mentors and coaches 40 professional performers and produces and directs over 200 live performances each year. In 2020, with the halt on live performance due to Covid-19, she spearheaded the Show Troupe Virtual Programming initiative with a successful pilot in the USO Pacific (Korea, Japan, Guam, Hawaii). As of 2021, this virtual programming is now available worldwide.

Janine has also co-written a family-driven romantic comedy titled Sister Before Misters which is currently in development with Dolphin Entertainment. Back to the Future’s Lea Thompson is attached to direct.

Janine’s album, produced by Matthew James Thomas and Irwin Menken, is currently in the works.

Janine is West Virginia born and Kansas City raised. She resides in New York City with her husband, Richard Del Bello, and adorable pup, Hagan.
